Extending a Warm Welcome to Student Observers
Welcoming students (professionals in training) helps extend Al‑Anon’s message of hope beyond our rooms. Observers come to learn without judgment, while respecting anonymity and confidentiality. A warm welcome, a brief explanation of our Traditions, and clear boundaries help keep meetings safe while putting Al‑Anon principles into action. By opening our meetings with care, we invite others to understand how Al‑Anon and Alateen support the families and friends of alcoholics and the shared path of recovery.
Public Outreach DVD – Designed to Meet Your Audience Where They Are
The Al-Anon and Alateen’s Role in Family Recovery (AV-31) public outreach DVD raises awareness of how Al-Anon and Alateen support families and friends affected by someone else’s drinking. Featuring interviews with adult and teen members as well as professionals, the DVD helps audiences better understand the impact of family recovery and the hope available through Al‑Anon and Alateen.

“How has Conference Approved Literature (CAL) supported your growth? Which book, pamphlet, or daily reader do you always have on hand? Do different books support different aspects of your personal recovery, service work, and sponsoring journey?” As always, you are also welcome to share on one or more of our Legacies. This month features Step Ten, Tradition Ten, and Concept Ten.

Whether you’re new to service, looking for fresh outreach ideas, or interested in sharing Al‑Anon online or in your community, the Public Outreach (PO) Toolkit on al-anon.org can help. Explore proven outreach projects from across the fellowship submitted by members, groups, and service arms. The PO Toolkit contains the best projects from the former service tool Best of Public Outreach, and it will continue to grow and evolve as members like you submit your own successful outreach projects.

A brand-new edition of Al‑Anon Faces Alcoholism (AFAM) is here, but its heart remains the same. Meaningful member sharings and insightful professional articles introduce potential newcomers to Al‑Anon and Alateen. Designed for effective public outreach, Al-Anon Faces Alcoholism helps professionals guide clients and patients affected by another’s alcoholism to find support and recovery in Al-Anon Family Groups. You can help carry the message by purchasing copies to share within your community and with professionals for referral. Go to al-anon.org/shop to order.
Please consider writing about one of the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, or Twelve Concepts of Service, as your World Service Office receives very few sharings about them. Submissions can range from about 200 to 400 words.

Serve on a WSO Committee!
The World Service Office (WSO) needs your experience, strength, and hope. Have you considered serving as an At-Large member on a WSO Volunteer Committee? These Committees help provide direction regarding our Conference Approved Literature, major public outreach projects, and which sharings to include in The Forum, as well as oversee our annual audit.
At-Large members must have at least five years of continuous Al‑Anon experience to serve. Submit your résumé at al-anon.org/at-large by October 29, 2026.
